A rude awakening
I have suddenly after all the garments, scarves, and hats I have been making become aware that I have been doing the knitting stitch wrong. It really does not change the look of the garment much but assume it will play a part later on when I am to knit a stitch to the back of the loop as the pattern calls for. I will also need to work on correcting this with my knitting students. One of the students also found a pattern that will work well for the class. I guess I missed it because I am not familiar with that type of Lion Brand yarn, will of course need to check out weight.

Started Lessons at Church
On Wednesday (yesterday) had the first group of ladies for lessons in knitting and crocheting. There is a total of 15 women signed up. Have split them up into two groups one for crochet and one for knitting. It should also be easier to teach them this way. So far it seems like it is going to be fun.
Jan 7: Developing Realistic Characters
In today's reading the author, Mr. Fred White, discusses the importance of good character development. He further states that the read learns the most about the character by the behavior they display.
FOR FURTHER REFLECTION
Today in this segment Mr. White asks us to first think about the Civil Rights Movement. Although many people know what that term means it is the behavior of people that gives us the best understanding of the movement. The actions of people like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. helps us understand more and also expands our picture of the movement.
TRY THIS
The assignment is to develop character profiles for five or six characters and then write a scene which includes narrative, dialogue, and action. In the you need to fully develop the character's personality and character atributes.
Unfortunately I already have too many characters and short stories going to get my brain working sufficiently to even attempt this assignment today.

Continue to work on hats and scarves for charity
This week I have continued to make hats and scarves to donate for the homeless. I have also gathered up some patterns to use for the knitting/crocheting ministry that we'll be starting at my church. I think since what missions department would like to have is some twin sized afghans for an orphanage the church partners with that we will work on some afghans that are made up of squares. I found patterns for both knitted and crocheted ones. That was several people can work on making the squares and then we will work together to construct the afghans.

Several projects finished
I have finished several projects since my last post. A shawl made with Lion Brand Homespun in pale blues. Several scarves and hat/scraf sets. Most of the sets will go to the homeless at the Storefront but there is a couple I made for myself. One is out of gold and gold metallic yarn to which I also adde gold colored glass beads; the other is a Red Heart Holiday yarn. It is red, green, and white varigated yarn with silver thread throughout. Makes for a cheerful holiday set with sparkle. I also made a Chenille black scarf for myself to go with the Black Matinee Jacket and also my fake leopard winter coat. I also have a couple of sets that I am working on now that I make either keep for myself or sale. I aso have a sleeveless sweater that I started last year but never finished that I think I have the yarn to finish. I also still have sock yarn to do something with. Plus some more of the Red Heart Crayola varigated yarn that makes such cheerful hat & scarf sets. Plus in January will start a crocheting class at the church if there is any interest. So far only one person has expressed an interest.

Black Matinee Jacket
Finished this project night before last and am wearing it today. Although a bit on the bulky side I do like the way it looks. I think it looks something like a black cropped jacket I once admired on a lady that attends my church. Since she is young and quite stylish I think this looks as good as something can look on me. My large bulk means it will never look like something out of the fashion magazines but it does look stylish and can be worn both at work and on the weekends.

Completed during Oct and first week of Nov 2009
Finished the rose colored baby blanket to go with a set that includes hat, booties, and mittens. Also re-worked a sweater that did not fit just like I wanted it too. Now am working on a black chennile scarf to go with my fake fur Leopard Coat.
